I had the best Howl-o-ween. A magical once-in-a-lifetime encounter with this stunning wolf from the Junction Butte Pack. I was sitting on the ground leaning against the wheel of my van taking photos of 3 other wolves further down the valley, trying to be inconspicuous, and I lifted my eye from my camera for a mere second and saw out of the corner of my eye, a wolf only about about 15 feet away, staring at me. We locked eyes, and then caught totally off guard, I tried to quickly move my camera his way. I snagged this shot just before he ran off. It was a moment I have dreamed of since I started visiting Yellowstone 10 years ago. While I’m glad I got the photo, the memory of what it was like to be face to face – eye level – with a wolf…was something I will never forget.
